Communist Countries
The communist countries who participated in the war favored the unification of North and South Korea and agreed to take a stand for their opinions in order to make a change in history. The Chinese leader Mao Zedong agreed to “stand up and support North Korea if U.S joins the Korean War”. Their main goal was to keep a communist regime in North Korea in order to receive economic and military support from the Soviet Union and take political initiative in Northeast Asia. Thus, China decided to participate and help North Korea to unify the country as one. They launched a surprise attack to the Republic of Korea and United Nations, forcing them to retreat to south of Cheonggyecheon River. According to the secondary article, “the Russians made matters worse by sealing their zone of occupation from the southern zone, halting coal deliveries to southern Korea, halting also railway traffic, mail deliveries and the transfer of electrical power southward across the 38th parallel.” Russia, one of the communist countries had also participated by supporting the North Koreans with medical and war material aid as well as intervening with the North Korean air forces. The Russians believed that North and South Korea should combine as one communist country for economic and political purposes. On the other hand, the Soviet Union held hands with North Korea for their own benefits of wanting to expand the sphere of communist. The Soviet Union provided diplomatic support, strategic and grand tactical planning, including the planning of invasion of South Korea. Along with Russia, they supplied and trained air forces of China and North Korea. These communist countries stood up for North Korea as an attempt to change history and expand communism.

Republicans
From the beginning to the end of the war, the United Nations had their own purpose to stand up and fight for the South Koreans. From the start of the war, they pleaded the North Koreans to withdraw fighting and to leave the 38th parallel border. When this warning was ignored, a second resolution was passed, asking for its member states to assist South Korea. The U.S, one of the member states, had originally supported South Korea and took a stand against the communists. As the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe and China were spreading communism around the world, U.S saw it as a threat. As republicans, they believed in the idea of uniting citizens under a government just like South Korea and therefore stood against the idea of communism expanding. General Douglas MacArthur commanded all of the American forces but their last attempt led to a retreat. MacArthur didn’t give up and decided to stand up to the idea of bombing China and use nationalist Chinese forces against the people’s republic of China to show them that they oppose the idea of becoming a communist. However, President Harry Tubman didn’t agree due to war policy and was eventually removed from his command. The United Nations played a huge role in the Korean war for defending the South Koreans.
